Students that “take a class” are seeking to take a class (or a few) at the Iowa Real Estate School for personal interest or professional growth or to meet the mandatory renewal requirements for their Salesperson license per the State of Iowa. These students are not planning on obtaining a new salesperson license.

Obtain Your Iowa Salesperson Real Estate License in Nine Simple Steps

Step 01 – Meet the minimum requirements | Must be 18 years of age and submit background check requirements to the Iowa Professional Licensing Bureau (PLB)
Step 02 – Complete the Real Estate Principals and Practices (60-hour course)| This asynchronous/self-paced class contains pertinent information for the examination.
Step 03* – Register for the Salesperson Exam | Register and take the exam at a PSI Examination Site. Don’t forget to attend our Exam Preparation classes *Can be done simultaneously with Step 2.
Step 04 – Yay! You passed the Salesperson Exam.
Step 05 – Take three, required classes | Complete the classes Buying, Listing, and Developing Professionalism & Ethical practices.
Step 06 – Select a brokerage.
Step 07 – Obtain Errors & Omissions Insurance | Professional liability insurance for the State of Iowa.
Step 08 – Submit your application | Complete the required application and provide the proper documentation to the Iowa Professional Licensing Bureau (PLB).
Step 09 – Build Your Real Estate Empire.

Real Estate Commission (IREC) requires the following live instruction courses: 60-hour Real Estate Principals and Practices course, 12 hours of Buying Practices, 12 hours of Listing Practices, and 12 hours of Developing Professionalism and Ethical Practices to meet Salesperson by Exam requirements. IRES is a registered provider and courses, and course formats are IREC approved.

Law Update

Ethics

Real Estate Commission (IREC) requires 8 hours Law Update and 4 hours Ethics, and these must be done within the three years of a renewal cycle.

IRES is a registered provider and courses, and course formats are IREC approved.

*Note: Agents/students must be a member of the following Boards to receive the NAR specific credential: Des Moines Area Association of Realtors, Northeast Iowa Regional Board of Realtors, Quad City Area REALTORS®

Real Estate Commission (IREC) requires 24 hours of continuing education, and these hours must be done within the three years of a renewal cycle.
